Jax Graffiti Artists – FAIL

I just noticed this article from the Times Union from 05/19. I heard the story earlier about two guys getting busted smoking out before tagging a building. One of the guys showed the cop his camera and the cop went through and viewed all sorts of tagged buildings and what not from the two taggers. FAIL. Not good. Heres the article from S.Patterson at the Times:

Joshua N. Howard, 27, and his friend Mark A. Dell, 30, were about to walk away from Jacksonville police with a court date for holding some pot when someone shared a bit too much information, according to a police report.

The report said police found the men in a car outside a vacant building on Dundas Drive on May 10.

In the car was a bag full of spray paint cans, a digital camera and some marijuana, according to police. Each man was given a notice to appear in court to face charges of loitering and marijuana possession.

Police said the men explained they meant to “tag” the vacant building with graffiti, but stopped to get high first and hadn’t done anything when the law arrived.

Officer T.M. Helms chimed in: That camera. Can I look at it?

OK, answered Howard, who said it was his. Look at the pictures, too? All right.

There were pictures of graffiti in the camera, and the two men talked about tagging buildings on Philips Highway, State Street, Arlington Expressway and other places, according to Helms’ report.

Last week, Helms went to a graffiti-painted business near Philips and Emerson Street, photographed about $3,500 in damage done in February and matched it with pictures in the camera, according to the report.

Howard and Dell turned themselves in Friday to face criminal mischief charges and were later released, according to police.

Hey man, Just to set the record straight this is not how it went down at all. My name is Mark and i was the one arrested for this, no consent was ever given for any camera, we hadn’t even touched the wall yet, and we never admitted to anything. As for the pics, there was illegal, legal walls, and every other writers work on there. These police here in jax are clueless, they arrested us on straight speculation and all charges were dropped. Not before they drug me and my boy through the mud and made this more of a deal than it ever was.

Slack cut but you shouldn’t add insult to injury. Don’t have things on you that could give anyone a reason to detain you. Owning spray paint is not illegal. At least you got lucky with the dropped charges.
