The guy in the terrorist get up is Jacksonvilles favorite so called ”art critic” and artist, Byron King from the blog JaxCal.org! Lets give it up for BK with another great, negative, jealous ass post on his blog about his frustration with the Jacksonville art scene….hell, the art scene in general everywhere. Byron has it in for the “monster artists” (whatever the hell that means)as usual. My friend Clay Doran (aKa SquidDust) was recently in our local mag Folio Weekly. The folks at Folio enjoy his work…much as the rest of the city does. Clay is not only a “monster artist”, he is also an abstract artist as well. He is educated in the arts and just simply enjoys what he does whether its abstract art or his monster creations. Byron has a hard on for crying out to the folks in our little town to stop the madness of taking any enjoyment in the work of those of us who paint something different and fun. A lot of the artist I know do not just paint a scary montster to simply just paint a scary monster. We all have different reasons for choosing this medium…its just what we enjoy doing for ourselves and for the public. I dont know what his deal is…especially since he is somewhat of an illustrator himself (byronking. com). WTF? He also claims that he is trying to help and improve Jacksonvilles art scene. What a big help indeed! Are you kidding me? Check it out for yourself…and please leave a comment to his post on Jaxcal….he likes that.

Anyways, that guys a blow hard. There is nothing wrong with creating art that is simply for entertainment. Byron claims he wants open dialoge between artists, yet he moderates the comments. SquidDust, do your thing and ignore the haters.
LOL..I had to laugh when he wants all the artists to “stand up” and be heard about the whole montster art thing but, he disabled the comments because a few people were being silly and childish….LOL…WTF? Crazy man…crazy. Oh well! If anyone feels the need to comment PLEASE feel free to comment here on The Outer Box! Whether you like it, hate it, or whatever.

childish is right. i feel like i’m in high school. i haven’t hated on you once. i’m talking about monster art in general.
i opened up comments on jaxcal to the post again if anyone would like to comment on it intelligently feel free. but don’t spew hatred as I’m not into that.

Im def better off without Jaxcal man…i post about art shows in town, have an up to date call to artists, educate the public on other talent here in Jax…come on man. Jaxcal as run by his majesty Byron… Comments on …comments off…drama…whinning..Byron..some of the folks who commented were not just artsits…some were the general public who just likes what we do…and yeah, some of the comments could have been better. Jaxcal is still a great site to read up on other contemporary art thats out there but for every step forward you make, you take two steps back with stuff like this. I always thought Jaxcal was here to really benifit everyone who is an artist here in town with keeping everyone up to date on the latest artists, news, show, etc..etc..I dont know what its turned into anymore. I think my post on JaxCal was good enough for your questions or whatever. I dont think i was spewing hatred…you said when will monster art die, when will the public wake up from the hook, line and sinker we dished out, rambling about how we have no real issues in our work…..wait..that wasnt you..it was the masked avenger. Right…sorry! I know you werent comming at me or anything but its still the medium that I work in and so are my friends like Clay. You want dialougue but, you aproach the subject in such a negative way that people are going to react to it just the same. Whatever man…good luck for whatever you do in the future man…just think before you post. You just gotta word things better and then people wouldnt react like this…im guily too now. I was prety pissed off and this is the reaction I had. You just gotta stop…just ask a question…dont put on a mask and ask everyone when is this gonna die and make all of us just feel like were stupid lil painters just randomly creating a bunch of crap. You make it seem as if your this grand critic of the scene…that what then caused everyone to question your work and what are you doing. Dude, this could go on forever.
