For the Record

Back near the end of May I posted up some info that I found out about from the 05/19 Times Union. The article was about two local graffiti artists, Joshua Howard and Mark Dell that got busted by the cops for tagging or about to tag a building. The artice made Mark and Josh seem like they couldnt give a damn and even showed the cops pics of other places they tagged via there digital camera. Well, Mark had a chance to add a comment about what REALLY went down that night. Heres what Mark had to say to set the record straight!

Hey man, Just to set the record straight this is not how it went down at all. My name is Mark and i was the one arrested for this, no consent was ever given for any camera, we hadn’t even touched the wall yet, and we never admitted to anything. As for the pics, there was illegal, legal walls, and every other writers work on there. These police here in jax are clueless, they arrested us on straight speculation and all charges were dropped. Not before they drug me and my boy through the mud and made this more of a deal than it ever was.

The key thing here is the charges were dropped. If they were truly doing something wrong and really damaged all sorts of property( as the article stated) then why would the cops just let them go? Probally because they didnt have anything on them! Im not saying tagging up other peoples property is ok by any means but, whatever Mark and Josh did obviously it was on vacant property and did not cause any property damange in any way. I know I have dablled from time to time in some tags myself and there are some I probally should not have done, but, I am trying to be a good boy lately..LOL. Does anyone know Mark and Josh??? Would be cool to see what kind of work they do…whether legal…or not. Heee Heeee Heeee!! Check out the original post I had up here if your interested in finding out more about what was reported by the Times Union and JSO.

These two got mad lucky with the dropped charges, but if I was them I wouldn’t want my name on here a long with the any of the other websites. Good luck, sounds like it’s time to write a new name..

“In the car was a bag full of spray paint cans, a digital camera and some marijuana, according to police. Each man was given a notice to appear in court to face charges of loitering and marijuana possession.”

Which charges were dropped? The loitering, possession or the criminal mischief mentioned in the earlier post? The first two are misdeamenors which can be dropped by the SOA for any number of reasons. The c/m is a little different matter….

Im really not sure. It seems as if all charges were dropped. I think this is a botched job on the reporting of the entire story by the Times Union.

i’ve heard word on the street what one of their “street names” was and have seen some of their throw-ups and tags around town. if my sources are correct and it’s who i think it is, they’ve done more than just vacant buildings. so if the cops did let them go, then they are absolutely clueless. that’s some funny shit.

There is an old article on news4jax which shows their faces, real names, and the names they write..

First i’d like to thank Mr. Gray for taking me off the chopping block, such as it is. I know the internet will never truly let this go, but it’s nice to somewhat have some hometown support. To be honest, I wish i could really explain the situations and b.s. of all this, but all i can really do is move on. I love Graffiti. And for every other writer out there you know what i’m getting at. It sucks to be caught trying to teach someone the basics(tags and throw ups) when your years and years into the game. And then to be aired out on the news and in the paper, I mean they even butchered my name, (just b/c its spelled one way doesn’t mean thats how it’s pronounced) Not to mention I’m not even 30! But that is what it is, and I’ll be patiently waitng for the next time. As for my other Jax writers, I’ve got nothing but love for all, even my dade county fellas who do there part! If you see me at the bar, give me a hollar and I give ya a good story. Until then keep holding it down and get up for me, I’ll be back soon enough. And thanks S. I hope our paths cross one day, and I’m digging the hollows I’ve seen, nice uniform letters. Thanks again, your site is dope.
